The Best Thing About Not Being Home is Missing You

There are people back home that your character hates. Or maybe they love them, but they're terrible people/influences. Here's your chance to talk or play out that special someone turning up in the Meadous. Are they so far out of their element that they're now defanged tigers? Do they lead right in with their wicked ways? What is your character's CR even going to think when they meet this person?

Post with your own character or the person they most/least want to see again who's a bad thing for them. Feel free to play out encounters in the snow between this character and your regular character's CR, or talk it out with if you're not sure you've got the voice down.

Fun for all ages! And by fun, we mean misery!

Telephone...? That was a communication device of some sort, wasn't it? Confusion flashed across his face as he thought the matter through, and then his expression settled into something more somber. "My apologies as well, Madam Craye.... We've no devices of that sort, and I'm afraid that you might be here for a while longer." There was no use dancing around the matter. They were trapped, she was trapped... best to let her know as soon as possible.

"And I am Kain Highwind. It's terribly cold, Madam Craye. Would you care to come in?" All that time mind controlled and in a murder tower hadn't made him forget his manners, of course.

Well, at least he had manners. His hair could be dealt with later. Perhaps there were no barbers available in this village. That strange collar, as well. Was it something religious? He didn't look like some sort of idiot pagan, but young persons did so enjoy their rebellion and fads.

"Thank you, Mr. Highwind," she replied, stomping her boots at the entrance before stepping into the warm house. "I'm glad to find a young man here who understands hospitality. Were you kidnapped, as well?"

Perhaps someday, Mika will finally corner him for a haircut. But today is not that day. Long impractical flowing blond hair reigns.

Kain shuts the door behind her, and is at the ready to take her coat. "I hope that no one's given you any trouble on your way here, madam?" Likely not? Hopefully not? "And yes. Though I've come to think of it as having been rescued... but that's a matter of my own perspective. Where were you before you arrived here, if I might ask?"

Agatha allowed him to take it, pleased that he knew well enough to do so. She stepped into what appeared to be the main sitting room once it was off and waited politely for him to direct her to the most appropriate seating. She sniffed at his question. "No one important, Mr. Highwind. I must say I'm sorry you've encountered such poor life experiences that being kidnapped could be considered anything good.

"I went to sleep at the flat I rent on occasion in London before I woke here. Percy's been away on business, I suspect whatever villain committed this act of treachery thought it would be the perfect time to take me. Where were you?"

Kain hung her coat upon the coat rack, and started into the main room as well. "Ah... I would hope, then, that this journey remains the poorest experience that you've had. For this place is a mercy, compared to some." It was a small house, sparsely decorated and with furniture more designed for practicality and comfort than being pleasing to the eye. There were several wooden chairs with comfortable white cushions upon them and a couch of similar make, padded with the same white fabric. Remnants from the tower, much to Kain's distaste, but furniture was furniture. He waited for Agatha to make herself comfortable where she wished, before taking a seat in one of the chairs.

Her answer as to where she's been was... interesting. "You've reason to believe that someone might wish to hold you for ransom?" This Agatha Craye did have the air of something generally well-off and entitled to her. He tried not to look skeptical. "Ah..." And then looked uncomfortable and evasive, instead. "...a long way from home. In the mountains. I had camped for the night, and when I awoke, I... was somewhere else entirely." Let the matter of the tower remain entirely unspoken of. She did not need to hear it, and he did not need to revisit it in his mind.

Agatha seated herself on the couch. It was surprising his home was so utilitarian when he wore a suit of such fine make. Although, on closer inspection, it did not appear to fit him quite right. It was too long in the arm and leg, and too small in the shoulder. A borrowed suit, then. Well, no matter. At least he knew better people.

"I have every reason to believe someone might hold me more ransom, Mr. Highwind," she said with a grave nod. "My husband is the Earl of Worpleston. He is very well off and has significant land holdings throughout the country." There was the flicker of a fond smile. "He also knows how to deal with my fool nephew, though that has more to do with a recommendation on his character than anything monetary to be gained from him."

She hardly paid any mind to Kain's awkwardness about his own arrival. Being transported from a tent to a cottage would seem to be a rescue in her eyes. "In any case, while it may be fortunate for some to find themselves elsewhere, it is not for me. Where is this place, anyway? Somewhere in Finland?"
