The Best Thing About Not Being Home is Missing You

There are people back home that your character hates. Or maybe they love them, but they're terrible people/influences. Here's your chance to talk or play out that special someone turning up in the Meadous. Are they so far out of their element that they're now defanged tigers? Do they lead right in with their wicked ways? What is your character's CR even going to think when they meet this person?

Post with your own character or the person they most/least want to see again who's a bad thing for them. Feel free to play out encounters in the snow between this character and your regular character's CR, or talk it out with if you're not sure you've got the voice down.

Fun for all ages! And by fun, we mean misery!

"What drivel you speak," Agatha sneers. Her opinion of this American is falling by the second. "I'm hardly going to use a wireless to contact anyone. Who is this Warren? Take me to him if he's the only one who's to be of any use in communication."

"Fine, fine," Nemo says, with a sigh. He's still a little wary of Warren, despite Quill's letter, if only because he's read enough fiction to know that Mysterious Salesmen are usually... if not exactly bad news, not good news either. "He and Kelt camp out in the woods. Look, just follow me, Mrs..." He realizes he doesn't know her surname. "Just follow me."

Nemo starts walking. He's hoping she's only being a harridan because she's upset, but it's starting to look like they've got another Dustin on their hands.

At least he has the ability to follow direction. And then he mentions the woods. "The only person with a means of leaving this place or communicating outside it is living in the forest?" Her tone has skipped clear beyond incredulous and straight into disbelief. "And you may call me Lady Worpleston, boy."

She doesn't ask after his name.
oldhippie: (serious)

oh my fucking god, aunt agatha, "boy?"

[personal profile] oldhippie 2014-02-20 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
"In a wagon, yeah," Nemo says. "It's his means of getting out past the impenetrable wall, don't ask me how. And I would very much appreciate it if you didn't call me boy, Lady Worpleston," he adds, allowing some of his frustration to leak into his voice. "You can call me Vantas or Mr Vantas or anything but 'boy.' I am a grown man."

Agatha tuts. "What do you mean an impenetrable wall, Mr. Vantas?" He is being marginally polite, so she's willing to acquiesce. "Surely there must be a ladder or rope in this whole village."
oldhippie: (serious)

[personal profile] oldhippie 2014-02-20 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
"There is," Nemo replies. At least she took the hint. "Just, none long enough or high enough to get past the wall. It's-- very high."
nephewcrusher: (what did you say?)

[personal profile] nephewcrusher 2014-02-20 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Agatha fronts and looks past him. "I can see some sort of wall from here. It hardly looks more than two men high." It also looked like the walls of Buckingham Palace. What on Earth?
oldhippie: (serious)

[personal profile] oldhippie 2014-02-20 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"It-- stretches," Nemo says. "And yeah, I know that doesn't make sense, but things don't work normally here. After you talk to Warren we can find a ladder for you and you can see."
nephewcrusher: (what drivel you read)

[personal profile] nephewcrusher 2014-02-20 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
"I have no intention of climbing a ladder in the dead of winter in furs," Agatha replies. "Do think before you speak, Mr. Vantas. And be reasonable. Walls do not simply stretch. It's obviously some delusion if you see that."

Nemo sighs. "After you've talked with Warren, would you like to touch the wall?"
nephewcrusher: (you're being serious?)

[personal profile] nephewcrusher 2014-02-20 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Why would I wish to go about touching walls?" Agatha demands. This man is an idiot, clearly. "I have been kidnapped. I don't have time for whatever hobbies might keep some people entertained, Mr. Vantas."

"Because some walls might have interesting textures." Warren said sticking a head out of his wagon. "Hello Sir and Ma'am! How can I help you two today? Wanting a peak into Warren's wonder wagon?"

[personal profile] oldhippie 2014-02-20 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lady Worplesdon here wants help leaving the Meadous," Nemo explains. "Lady Worplesdon, this is Warren the Travelling Salesman. Warren, this is Lady Worplesdon. And I'm Nemo Vantas. I think you've met my wife and nephew?"

At least, he's pretty sure Gamzee's hung out with Warren.

Agatha's eyes flit from Nemo to the red-haired man, then back to Nemo. This... this fool has brought her to a gypsy caravan? Is Nemo one of them? Good gracious, what diseases is she going to catch just standing here? Of course they'd be able to move in and out of a place as they wish; they're like rats!

She turns her gaze once more to Warren, glaring at him down her nose. "I have no interest in your wares, Mr. Warren. I wish to send word to the authorities that I have been kidnapped."

"Well, less kidnapped and more brought here to help a little God grow up." Warren said moving to a sitting position. "Want some coffee or tea? I also have cookies, it would be rude of me to just let you two freeze."
oldhippie: (serious)

[personal profile] oldhippie 2014-02-21 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Coffee would be nice," Nemo says, "especially if you've got cream. I'm afraid you'll have to explain everything to Lady Worplesdon. My own attempts didn't go over so well."
nephewcrusher: (i don't believe you)

[personal profile] nephewcrusher 2014-02-22 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Nothing," Agatha replies. She doesn't trust whatever 'herbs' a gyspy might be using for tea, let alone his kitchen hygiene. The woman gets straight to the point. "Mr. Vantas is incapable of assisting in reaching the authorities outside this place. You were indicated as some suitable person to do so." The look she's giving him would seem to indicate that she has little belief in this.

Even so, Warren's feathers didn't seem ruffled at all. Warren gets out a clean pot and some water and sets it over the fire. "Of course,I tend to travel around. But unfortunately, due to rules put into place by things bigger and better than I, I can't." He frowned a little. "A lot of people want to leave for some reason, I don't know why actually. Its actually a nice peaceful place here. I would set down some roots myself, maybe start a family. Have kids and a dog- maybe even get a tie. I hear ties are important when starting a family."
oldhippie: (friendly)

[personal profile] oldhippie 2014-02-23 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't know about that," Nemo says, "I certainly wasn't wearing one when Meulin and I got married--not that we had a wedding--and I really doubt I was wearing one when my kids were born either."

He's already plotting ways to cut and run after he drinks his coffee, leaving Warren with Lady Worplesdon to deal with. He was a supernatural being. He ought to be able to handle it.
nephewcrusher: (what did you say?)

[personal profile] nephewcrusher 2014-02-23 05:17 am (UTC)(link)
Agatha wrinkles her nose at Warren as she's immediately reminded of Bertie; this man is a driveling idiot. "While you both may have no ties to anywhere," she says, assuming Nemo is a gypsy, as well - his skin is dark enough and the fact that the man hasn't bothered with wedding his wife is indication enough, "I do. I already have a family, Mr. Warren. I was taken from it and brought here by your 'bigger and better' forces. There are matters to attend to. My husband will simply not tolerate my absence, and I despair of the state I may find England in if my nephews aren't properly managed. None of them are married." She says this as if it may be counted as one of the worst character defects a man could have.

"Whats properly married?" Warren asked, sounding honestly curious.

"In Lady Worplesdon's case," Nemo says, "I expect it involves finding wealthy girls willing to listen to everything she says." Personally, he feels sorry for those nephews and husband. "In the larger sense, it involves a lot of paperwork being signed--for the actual license and the prenuptial agreement--and then an elaborate, expensive wedding party being thrown. My sister and brother-in-law ended up having one of those. Aunt Betty insisted."
