Jay isn’t exactly his first choice. Eddie will admit that to himself, be it guiltily. He would rather have Sasha. He still dreams of the german man every night. Still finds himself setting the table for three out of habit. Lili and Sasha being gone leaves the house bigger than Eddie ever thought it could be.

But loneliness is a bitch and a half. Eddie can’t deny as much. He can see the same loneliness in Jay, when the man isn’t preening or acting aloof, Eddie can see the pieces of something unhappy. A mask tightly worn to conceal something brittle and broken. He sympathizes, but doesn’t realize how much he does until Jay kisses him one day and he returns it out.
