spitefulvitae: (A Touch Mad)

By popular demand... the World of Darkness meme!

It's a Dark, Dark World.

Mostly old World of Darkness based, but if you like the New WoD, go for it!

The world is filled with cruelty, corruption, and despair. Lurking in the darkness... monsters. Of all kinds, origins, and forms. Creatures of evil and destruction, only marginally more familiar than the unknown terrors.

And now you're one of them.

This is a World of Darknessā„¢ inspired meme! Your character transforms into one of the following monstrous creatures listed below, and suffers the plight one faces as a result.

Since we like to play it fast and loose here at We the Lost, feel free to brainstorm what your characters would be, speculate how you'd interact with each other, and maybe even thread out a thing or two, if that's to your fancy!

1. Vampire: Whether you were Embraced by another Vampire in violence or in seduction, your transformation is powerful and traumatizing. Your body craves the blood, and the blood gives you eerie supernatural powers. Powers to control the mind, to enslave men, and the immortality to set any plans into motion you so deem... how do you spend eternity in your fight against boredom?
2. Werewolf: You lived for some time with no knowledge of your lineage, of the blood in your veins. A great power awakens in you, and in a moment of unfathomable anger you white out. And when you wake, you awaken to a shower of gore, your hands shrinking from giant clawed paws to what you recognize as fingers. Now there is that ever-present primal rage, simmering below the surface and urging you towards great and righteous battle against evils and against monstrous spirits...
3. Mage: Humans have long since been known to be wise and enlightened... but when your Avatar appears in your mind and your soul, you see the face of true enlightenment. You have the powers to shape and mold reality to be as you perceive it. Do you see the world as a canvas to paint upon? Do you see it as a weaving, with threads of fate that you can remove and displace? What is your reality, and how do you influence it?
4. Changeling: The world is dark, bleak, and worst of all it is simply banal. But deep inside was something hidden, that awakens from the dream. And now, with the powers of the Fae, you have the ability to inspire and combat banality with inspiration and imagination. But is the fight against the darkness and cruelty of the world a losing battle?
5. Hunter: With all of these monsters roaming the world, what is a human to do? They're powerless to protect themselves... or so it seems. You find yourself granted the power to see these monsters, to try and hold them in place and to be resourceful enough to destroy them. If you can manage the voices in your head or the madness of seeing the supernatural, be careful to not forget that you are just as painfully mortal as you were before...
6. Demon: At your lowest moment, when you lost yourself and your soul died, your body welcomed into it a new force. Deep inside nestled a new consciousness, which absorbed everything you were. You are now that Being, and that being is You. And You recall, faintly, a great war. You remember being an angel, a very being of creation, a very concept of reality such as the Breath of Life or the Illumination of Fire. And You remember what Hell was... it was not fire and brimstone. That would have been nice. It was a void of nothingness, where You could not even sense Yourself, since the fall of reality. And you have every reason to be resentful.
7. Other: Know how the Hengeyokai work? Want to be one of the Changing Breeds? Or maybe represent for Mummy, Wraith, Geist, Promethean, or another World of Darkness title? Do whatever you like! Have a blast!

Jay is actually the specialest goddamn snowflake and is a Promethean. Specifically, he's a Galateid, a muse created from the corpse of a beautiful youth.

He's beautiful and amorous and desires companionship, but being a Promethean, he repulses people with Disquiet -- mortals start feeling that there's something fundamentally wrong with him and are driven away. He's lucky that his aura of Disquiet never enraged someone to the point of attempting to kill him, but he's pretty much doomed to loneliness.

He was created by a Frankenstein who desired companionship, love and a little beauty in his life and stalked and killed a 19-year-old young man to turn into one of his kind. (During the making, Jay's creator discovered that his target was a trans man, but decided to just roll with it.)

Jay's fairly bitter, lonely and death-obsessed and this is so very little different from canon that it's actually funny.

I still don't remember much from my brief attempt to understand Mage, but I'm pretty sure Even is one. Because science.

Things I still remember:

Vampire - Tzimisce. How I can remember how to spell that but not anything much else about Vampire is a MYSTERY.

Changeling - Nocker. So very. The Nocker Frailty drives him to distraction. "IT'S NEVER PERFECT!!!" (Sorry, Kurai and Xion.)

Aeleus is a Gargoyle - a stone statue brought to life by magic and blood rituals, created to protect and serve his master. Needless to say, the bloodline - if it can be called that - looks almost nothing like any other vampires, and an awful lot more like the 'classic' image of gargoyles, right down to the carven wings.

If vampire!Even he's probably partially responsible for Aeleus' creation. Because woooooops ancient rituals and blood magic.

...Since Changeling is the only thing I have down pat (also I can check in the book), I'm just gonna. Describe that. Even is a Nocker, a craftsman by nature. He can make...just about anything, including chimera, though it will always have some kind of flaw in it. Even in particular has taken the crafting of chimera far beyond what is generally considered possible, through the inanimate to the animate and even the sentient. (Hi, kids!)

Also Nockers are perpetually rude assholes. That's in their kith description. Just saying.

Does Disquiet affect nonmortals at all? Because if not, Jay's lucky to have found Babbygod's Haven for Miscellaneous Bullshit.

[personal profile] earthshatter 2014-01-09 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
It did! In so much as animating a stone statue into an almost-vampire can ever work out.

On the plus side, loyal guard that's really hard to kill.

Mad science rule: if your creation doesn't immediately want to kill you, you're doing pretty okay.

[personal profile] earthshatter 2014-01-09 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
Gargoyles are pretty literally made to serve, so... I guess that's okayish?

[personal profile] defrostedpride 2014-01-09 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
By mad science standards, that is far better than merely 'okay'.

Mad science standards are not very high.

I think it might? I'm not sure and my old GM isn't either. 8V

Fair enough. Plus vampire morals are... not great anyway.

Then it does Whatever The Storyteller Says, according to Rule 0. So what do you think? Is he offputting even to people who are fairies, made of stone, et cetera?

So there's the old school Changelings, who awaken and fight back Banality. Then there's the newer ones, that get taken and broken and put back together, and have to find their way home again.

Kain's the latter. Golbez was an agent of a True Fae that was said to reside on the moon. He took the injured, jealous, angry dragoon away to Arcadia, and his master reshaped his mind and body. He's a Draconic Fairest now, still a fine fighter, but gifted with supernatural grace and fleetness and charm. Most can't see through the Mask that makes him look like a normal man, but those that can will see silver-blue scales rather than skin, horns curling back atop his head, and talons rather than fingernails.

(I am a pretentious dingus, yes yes...)

Ammond is a Sin Eater - a few months back, she got really stupid with some substances you're not supposed to operate machinery after using, tried to operate some machinery anyway, died in a motorcycle accident, and made a deal with a kind of death elemental/super ghost/we're really not sure called a Geist. Now she's alive again, but the Geist is riding around in the back of her head offering helpful commentary and giving her the ability to see ghosts and use some kinds of magic.

Ammond thinks this is super awesome, and she's really not any more careful about stuff this go around, at all - as a Forgotten Celebrant, she's got both the risk-seeking behavior of someone who sees the living world as a series of gambles, and the hedonism of someone who feels she's got to get as much living in as possible before bad luck strikes again. And hey, living with the specter of a teenage boy who bleeds gasoline from multiple open wounds and has hyperreflective blank eyes bonded to her soul isn't nearly as unpleasant as it might sound.

Well all I know about World of Darkness I learned from VtM: Bloodlines so if he's a vampire he's a Malkavian with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde style duality where one personality is pretty much normal Ienzo but a bit more shrinking violet and the other is full on stern terrifying mad scientist.

I mean usually he's a werewolf in supernatural creature AUs but I don't know enough about WoD werewolves to say anything on that front.

Yeah, I looked it up and it seems like there's no word on how it affects non-humans.

So he doesn't make people feel unworthy, ugly, meritless and intimidated by his beauty, if those people are supernatural themselves, but he does wrap nature and the land around him a little.

It really upsets him.

Let's be real is there the slightest chance in hell that Murai is not a Hunter? The definition up there is pretty much literally a description of her in canon.

Even is the Nocker-est Nocker. Yes.

Draconic-Kain would probably be about as down as he currently is with Nocker-Even messing around with his Animus-baggage. They're (kind of) the same thing! It will totally turn out okay! This guy's got relevant expertise.

Right?

[personal profile] defrostedpride 2014-01-09 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
GOD, Kain, why are you always so Problems?

On the plus side, dragon. I mean, canon was basically that but without getting to be a dragon at the end, so.

Given that Ienzo is fairly unnatural/supernatural, I think Jay befriends him in this AU because Ienzo isn't affected by his Disquiet.

Sorry, Ienzo, there's no getting rid of rude velcro pseudodad.
ajealouswind: (Unsure)

Because he wouldn't be him if he didn't have problems.

At least his problems are thematic?
