By popular demand... the World of Darkness meme!

It's a Dark, Dark World.

Mostly old World of Darkness based, but if you like the New WoD, go for it!

The world is filled with cruelty, corruption, and despair. Lurking in the darkness... monsters. Of all kinds, origins, and forms. Creatures of evil and destruction, only marginally more familiar than the unknown terrors.

And now you're one of them.

This is a World of Darknessā„¢ inspired meme! Your character transforms into one of the following monstrous creatures listed below, and suffers the plight one faces as a result.

Since we like to play it fast and loose here at We the Lost, feel free to brainstorm what your characters would be, speculate how you'd interact with each other, and maybe even thread out a thing or two, if that's to your fancy!

1. Vampire: Whether you were Embraced by another Vampire in violence or in seduction, your transformation is powerful and traumatizing. Your body craves the blood, and the blood gives you eerie supernatural powers. Powers to control the mind, to enslave men, and the immortality to set any plans into motion you so deem... how do you spend eternity in your fight against boredom?
2. Werewolf: You lived for some time with no knowledge of your lineage, of the blood in your veins. A great power awakens in you, and in a moment of unfathomable anger you white out. And when you wake, you awaken to a shower of gore, your hands shrinking from giant clawed paws to what you recognize as fingers. Now there is that ever-present primal rage, simmering below the surface and urging you towards great and righteous battle against evils and against monstrous spirits...
3. Mage: Humans have long since been known to be wise and enlightened... but when your Avatar appears in your mind and your soul, you see the face of true enlightenment. You have the powers to shape and mold reality to be as you perceive it. Do you see the world as a canvas to paint upon? Do you see it as a weaving, with threads of fate that you can remove and displace? What is your reality, and how do you influence it?
4. Changeling: The world is dark, bleak, and worst of all it is simply banal. But deep inside was something hidden, that awakens from the dream. And now, with the powers of the Fae, you have the ability to inspire and combat banality with inspiration and imagination. But is the fight against the darkness and cruelty of the world a losing battle?
5. Hunter: With all of these monsters roaming the world, what is a human to do? They're powerless to protect themselves... or so it seems. You find yourself granted the power to see these monsters, to try and hold them in place and to be resourceful enough to destroy them. If you can manage the voices in your head or the madness of seeing the supernatural, be careful to not forget that you are just as painfully mortal as you were before...
6. Demon: At your lowest moment, when you lost yourself and your soul died, your body welcomed into it a new force. Deep inside nestled a new consciousness, which absorbed everything you were. You are now that Being, and that being is You. And You recall, faintly, a great war. You remember being an angel, a very being of creation, a very concept of reality such as the Breath of Life or the Illumination of Fire. And You remember what Hell was... it was not fire and brimstone. That would have been nice. It was a void of nothingness, where You could not even sense Yourself, since the fall of reality. And you have every reason to be resentful.
7. Other: Know how the Hengeyokai work? Want to be one of the Changing Breeds? Or maybe represent for Mummy, Wraith, Geist, Promethean, or another World of Darkness title? Do whatever you like! Have a blast!

Well, the good news is that it will almost completely work, provided Kain doesn't get fed up and punch Even halfway through (a decision for which few would blame him). The bad news is, you know, almost, and also you have to listen to Even talk while he's working.

fuck you I totally go here

[personal profile] bloodyashes 2014-01-09 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
So there are two options for grumpy here

Either nWoD changeling, with its whole "you've been kidnapped and replaced" shtick, and all the misery that entails (Luke is his fetch, obviously, and he's probably some sort of sound spirit because obvious and also I Played At Changed)

Or nWoD Demon which is the one I've actually developed - new demon involves mechanical angels who are tools of the god machine, who for whatever reason decided to go "fuck this" about being a tool that got their memories wiped and put away until the next time they were needed

And so they're paranoid fuckers hiding out from the non fallen angels by maintaining humans lives as much as they can while still pursuing their demon things (which can include anything from "repenting and going back to the godmachine" to "blow that fucker up")

And as you might have guessed, asch falls on the "blow that fucker up" side. He was originally inserted into a "cover" of being the son of a rich woman who couldn't actually havr children (memory manipulation bullshit) and he kind of fell in love with the life. When the order to destroy it came, he refused and Fell, and wound up going on the run.

Which ended in a replacement angel being sent to the same cover, but that's another story. C': for the time being, Asch drifts along the edges of supernatural society, trading information and the occasional assassination to keep himself above water. Since even other magics can't detect a demon lying, anyone who knows him probably thinks he's a human, or a mage at most.

Also I once wrote a starter on a meme for this verse if you want to look at it (I'm the nwod demon lady it's me)

Ok after a quick review (via wikipedia) I really do think that we can leave most of her backstory intact, albeit with a bit of updating for a modern technology level; the Veiled is almost certainly a Conspiracy, although they're a bit less WIPE THINGS OUT than some Hunter factions, except in cases where the supernatural people are directly preying on humans. Then they're pretty aggressive.

Murai herself is fairly low-ranking in the Order's hierarchy and her mental stability isn't the greatest after a mission gone sour a few years back. Most of her "hunting" involves surveillance on low-risk targets in the area. AKA a lot of you folks.

Continuing on the theme above, Asch /pretends/ to be affected by the disquiet (because pretending perfectly to be human is what Demons Do in nwod) which results in Continuous Crankiness

But when things get Serious he's completely unphased and I feel like Jay would be rightly confused by this and also annoyed because why are you pretending to feel the disquiet when you actually don't, asshole
godsword: (Facepalm)

[personal profile] godsword 2014-01-09 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
The good news is that unless he starts directly preying on people, she's probably just going to be content to observe unless someone higher up in her organization tells her to get out the torches and pitchforks.

The bad news is that she's not going to stop anyone else who's feeling pitchforky, and if they actually interact she's not going to make any secret of the fact that she's got her eye on him and yes she's getting the full brunt of his Disquiet and the fact that she may well have been warned at some point that Prometheans Kind Of Do That by someone at headquarters doesn't make her any more sympathetic.

He may or may not acquire a former-statue of a bodyguard, if he hasn't already been somehow involved the the Arcane Processes that made Aeleus.

Given prior answers and that Aeleus' various Disciplines connect him to the earth, he finds Jay a little strange, but not actually because of the Disquiet. He still looms most terribly too and now looks like he might actually be made of stone and also looks sort like a Traditional Gargoyle.

So. Ammond probably doesn't get the full strength of the Disquiet - that seems like the kind of thing that a Geist would shield a person from to some extent - but she's still close enough to being A Mortal Human that she's not totally immune.

She just... pretends she is. She's intrigued by Jay - he does funky things to her various newfound death-related senses in ways that have nothing to do with the Disquiet. And also "fundamentally wrong" doesn't quite have entirely the same impact when you're only alive because you're partially possessed by the anthropomorphic personification of fatal vehicular collisions, yourself.
bloodyashes: ([F] You're adorable)

[personal profile] bloodyashes 2014-01-09 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
Does your conspiracy need a long-term informant that Murai is awkward towards because he's been hanging out at the fringes as long as she can remember and he's only physically a few years older than her?
godsword: (What)

[personal profile] godsword 2014-01-09 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
Why yes, I think they do.

She's too polite to just come out and ask - not that she'd expect him to tell her - but it totally drives her crazy because he's obviously not a proper member of the Order and she really isn't sure what he is. Her superiors seem to trust him? She guesses that's probably good enough?? But wow what is this guy's deal???
bloodyashes: (//tilts head)

[personal profile] bloodyashes 2014-01-09 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
Especially because he seems almost hyper-normal - the demon morality gauge is literally how well they can pass themselves off as not abusers of glitches of reality and etc

So unless she actually catches him Doing Something, he seems completely normal, maybe too smart for his age, but nothing that would set off whatever weirdness sensor wod!Murai has

Except that he gets all this weird information and can't be found in any records of births or anything

We're going to say Bertie is a werewolf in this AU because, apparently, lycanthrophy is his bane when I write him in supernatural situations. It was his mum who was the werewolf, though she didn't actually know about it until shortly before she died. She and Pop Wooster managed to get into an argument while on a road trip and she kept getting angrier and angrier until... welp. They ran off the road, off a cliff, and into the sea. Their bodies washed up on the shore. So, Bertie and his sister Sylvia and the majority of his family lived with no knowledge of the fact that werewolf was in the blood.

Sylvia had her first transformation when she was 15 and at school. It ended with several other girls eviscerated and Sylvia shipped away to India for hiding and treatment. Bertie's aunts watched him like a hawk after that. Aunt Dahlia was a hunter, after all. She had an inkling of what might happen with him. Bertie didn't have his first shift until he was in his mid-20s. So, he's a newly minted werewolf, actually. He managed to go storming off from a friend while out in the country before transforming, which saved him the heartache of murdering anyone. He did wake up with a deer carcass next to him, though, and flipped out. He went to his PA (we're calling this modern setting, right?), Jeeves, to figure out what happened.

Jeeves is helping him hide his condition as much as possible, but Bertie's been becoming more wild as his werewolf genetics exert themselves. They both try to argue that he's just eccentric, and he goes out to the country regularly to go 'hunting' to try to tame his inner beast and prevent any incidents.

I have the feeling Aunt Dahlia may know of the Veil (she's a Hunter herself), even if she isn't a part of it. She'd be mighty interested if someone of the Veil took an interest in her nephew.

OKAY WELL having done a shitton of reading on werewolves it looks like another option is for Ienzo to have been left on the doorstep of some unfortunate orphanage when he was an infant. His childhood was relatively uneventful, though he proved himself remarkably clever and a quick learner, being moved up several grades and entering college at the age of sixteen with a full scholarship.

But college is a stressful place, especially if you're one of the youngest people there, and one particularly heated argument with a professor after class resulted in some startling revelations.

So, question: Is anyone here prepared to explain to a very confused student why his professor is suddenly dead and why he's covered in blood, preferably before someone else calls the police?

EDIT: WAIT THERE ARE WERECATS IMPORTANT QUESTION CAN IENZO BE A BASTET.

EDIT 2: Yeah he's a bagheera. Pretentious righteous fury cats. Really disorganized due to declining numbers and probably most likely to just lose track of a baby.

Well Ienzo wound up way further west than any of the rest of the Bagheera and cats aren't pack animals anyway so he's kind of SOL and just falls in with the rest of the local nonhuman population.

So Ammond I hope you like having the shittiest werecat of all time just kind of attach himself to you because he has no idea what he's doing and you're one of the first people to be nice to him.
ignes_fatui: (oh nooooooooo)

[personal profile] ignes_fatui 2014-01-09 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I figure after his first change Ienzo probably gets bounced around various Garou mentors for a while because there aren't many Bastets out and about and of those all have more important things to do than look after some stray. It's not like the wolves know what to do with him either though so eventually the local pack just dumps him on Bertie. Here, you're both inept. Make friends.

I mean he's got an obnoxious werecrow and a werecrocodile looking out for him but apparently werewolf relationships with both of the above are a bit strained.

[personal profile] psycheslantern 2014-01-09 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Ammond's cool with that, yeah.

Hopefully Ienzo doesn't mind her occasionally having loud (if apparently one-sided) arguments with her Geist. I mean, she doesn't have to speak out loud to communicate with Roadrash, he's kind of grafted onto her soul, but it's more satisfying to yell at him sometimes, and she's comfortable enough to do that around other supernatural people.

It's probably a good idea not to let her drive after one of those arguments, though.
ignes_fatui: (how exciting)

[personal profile] ignes_fatui 2014-01-09 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Long as she doesn't mind him getting distracted by pigeons on the sidewalk mid-conversation and occasionally having to remind him not to try to pounce on them. And unfortunately Ienzo never learned to drive thanks to getting caught up in the rush of a bunch of Garou scrambling around him to make sure he doesn't get implicated in the death of that professor just before he was thinking about signing up for Driver's Ed, but if there's one thing he's really good at it's annoying reminders that certain things are bad ideas.
psycheslantern: (Default)

[personal profile] psycheslantern 2014-01-09 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh man if he ever expresses interest in getting his license she will so teach him to drive.

Or rather they'll have one or two lessons punctuated with nigh-constant "shut up, Roadrash" on her part and then she'll see if she can find someone to teach him who doesn't have a symbiotically-bonded uberghost in their head pointing out that you could totally do a jump off of that overpass.
psycheslantern: (Explaining)

[personal profile] psycheslantern 2014-01-09 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok so how do demons age because if I'm reading the Geist book right and correctly interpreting your previous comments I think Ammond should be able to tell that there's something weird about him if she meets him more than once or twice. Sin-Eaters can tell someone's age to the day and hour just by looking at them, and for "non-living human impostors" it's "the apparent age of the body," so if Asch doesn't age like a normal human, she'll be able to spot that.
bloodyashes: ([F] Coming along?)

[personal profile] bloodyashes 2014-01-09 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen it explored? But I've been figuring they age normally since oops, not aging would be a hell of a blow to long term cover

So Asch pings as somewhere between 18 and 19 depending on when they meet, assuming this is in a general wtl-equivelent time period

Xigbar is a were! Most specifically, he's a Corax, or were-raven. Whether he was hatched or born is a fact that he doesn't much talk about, but he is absolutely the best person to go to if you want information - especially if it happens to be information about someone else.

However, he is no less irritating than his canon self. Part of this is because he always knows everything (and tends to the trickster besides) but also because the Corax are one of the very few shifters to not be affected by silver, and so he has something of a habit of wearing silver.

He is also excessively fond of shiny things and may or may not have stolen anything that catches his eye regardless of who it might have belonged to.
